Other Resources

All the information on this website, in one way or another, comes from these fantastic sources.

Information Is Not Knowledge – A fantastic and easy to use guide to all of Frank’s official releases and known compositions. Especially interesting is the Notes and Comments section, with info on almost every album and year in FZ’s career.

FZShows – An amazing listing of every known live Zappa recording with complete setlists including quotes and partial tunes. Crazy useful.

Zappateers – This is the number one source for unofficial Frank Zappa material. You can find the best quality versions of everything that exists and all for free. If you’re getting your bootlegs anywhere else, you’re doing it wrong (unless of course you’re using my YouTube channel where I upload every live performance for the people who fear torrents).

We’re Only In It For The Touring – My biggest inspiration for this site. This has info on every song played on most tours, along with stats and overviews. The only problem is it was last updated 15-20 years ago, so a good chunk of that info is incorrect. It’s still worth checking out for different opinions on everything and lot’s of great writing on Frank’s guitar playing, which I felt I really couldn’t improve upon with this site.

The Tape Reviewer Society – A site dedicated to reviewing every Frank Zappa tape. It was last updated in 2001 and only covers a portion of Frank’s career, but what’s there is a very useful resource and has much more in depth reviews then what I have on this site. That being said, due to it being 20+ years old there are a fair amount of tapes in better quality or with more accurate dates, so keep that in mind when reading.

Zappa Books – a very useful resource with info on all printed material about FZ.

The Planet of My Dreams – a fantastic site operated by Charles Ulrich, with info on FZ touring line-ups, various lyric mutation in songs, other miscellaneous FZ info and in depth analyses of the 1970-1972 bands

The Big Note – An absolutely insane book by Charles Ulrich with all the imaginable information about Frank you could think of. Buy this book now.

The Frank Zappa 1988 Tour Project – A site by Pat Busby featuring everything you could want to know about disastrous Frank’s 1988 Tour. A great companion site to Andrew Greenway’s book Zappa the Hard Way.

The Idiot Bastard Son – A great site by Andrew Greenway with “news, reviews and interviews” on FZ. frequently updated and a great resource for news on anything in the Zappa world.

Frank Zappa: Life on the Road on YouTube – Another horribly shameless plug for my YouTube channel where I’m uploading all the live shows from Zappateers for all you people who demand convenience.
